Burning Factory at Woodlands

On the morning of 6 Jun, I woke up and came out from my room to smell a very strong scent in the air. Finding it perculiar, I just ignored it and prepared to go to work as usual. When I walked to the bus stop, I could still smell the strong scent drifting in the air. I also overheard an auntie at the bus stop commenting to her husband "got strawberry smell"..

It was only the next day when I saw the news that I found out that it was because a nearby factory producing essential oils was burnt down on Fri morning and all the water used to extinguish the fire mixed with the essential oils and flowed into the river behind my house - luckily no one was hurt in that fire. No wonder there was this funny smell in the air! In the end, the strong smell took very long to disperse..yucks..

The worst thing was, when I came back one night on 12 Jun, immediately after I came out from the cab, I could smell that yucky smell again! After seeing the news, I found that it was because some workers carrying salvage work at the very same factory, yes, they sparked off another fire again on that day. Aiyoh, really suah and careless to get your factory burnt twice within such a short time right? Anyway, I hope that they will manage to clear off all their stuff and not contaminate the river water anymore - quite a no. of poor fish were killed in the river. :(

Of course, I also pity the poor workers from the nearby factories in that district. If the stench was that bad from my house, how did it smell to those just working next to that factory? Aiyoh..

Aiwah's Birthday Celebration at Blue Jaz Cafe

We had an early birthday celebration with Aiwah on 6 Jun, Fri.
Met Aiwah from Bugis MRT before she showed me where the place we wanted to go (ie. Blue Jaz Cafe) was. I definitely would not have managed to find my way there without her help haha..

We went to the 2nd floor of the cafe and ordered food to share, I must say the spaghetti and the seafood platter was quite nice. :) The atmosphere was also quite good until it was late and the DJ started to play really loud music. :P

When that happened, we decided to proceed somewhere else and managed to find a seat at the Bugis TCC which opens til 1 am. We had a good chat there until quite late before we were sent home by Bee's brother.

Oh yes, something to mention was that we discovered Bee's brother doesn't know us by our names (except for Aiwah whom Bee has know since primary school days)! In fact, on that day, he smsed Bee and said he saw Aiwah and "Sembawang" crossing the road when he drove Bee there. It was only then that I found out my nickname was "Sembawang" while Peisi is called "Hougang". Haha..Chris, was no better because she's "the one who stays over there"..bc she stays so near to Bee..LOL rite? Peng San.. ;S

Anyway, overall I hope that Aiwah had a good time with us and enjoyed herself! :)

Moving Office to Redhill (Officially)

The day finally came..it was time for us to officially move our office to Redhill after all the announcements of our secondment! We were informed to pack all our stuff into boxes and get them ready by Fri, 6 Jun so that the movers could come first thing in the morning on Mon.

As there was an event beforehand at Redhill, I could only manage to rush back to One Marina Boulevard at around 4+ pm to quickly pack my stuff (see photo). Luckily I didn't have super many things there bc I was new but still managed to fill 3 boxes as I had a lot of files and papers. I managed to finish my packing around 7+ before rushing down to meet Aiwah for her birthday.

I haven't manage to take any photos of my new office/cubicle yet but will do so when I have some time. It's even more open that my previous cubicle and my RO is sitting diagonally behind me so not a very good fengshui place. :P

Currently as at 21 Jun, my 3 boxes are still sitting beside my cubicle waiting to be unpacked but just haven't got the time because so busy recently.. :P

Outing to Wei Lyn's house

On the week before Vesak Day (long weekend), Wei Lyn suddenly emailed a few of us "old" EDB HRians to invite us to her house for tea on Sat, 17 May. Although it was quite a sudden decision, quite a no. of us could make it so quite happy. :)

A lot of them brought along their children with swimwear to play in the condo's swimming pool and I think they enjoyed themselves a lot - as you can see from the photo (Marcus & Tivoli enjoying themselves). :)

Me, I arrived quite late bc I was waiting for my dad to come home with sotong balls I asked him to buy, then spent some time frying them..by the time I reached all of them had eaten and were in fact ready to go swimming. :P Lesson learnt: tell dad specific time I am going out haha.. When I reached, I had to try to find some time locating Wei Lyn's unit but managed to see her waving to me from the window phew..haha..it was only when she opened the door for me that I realised she was pregnant! Very happy for her! :)

While the daddies and mommies went to play with their children at the swimming pool, I helped myself to the popiah and other nice food that Wei Lyn ordered and the others brought. Also enjoyed myself watching cartoons: The Incredibles and Finding Nemo together with Wei Lyn's sister and Poh Nguk. :)

Had an overall good time and hope that we can do this again! Wei Lyn's son Marcus (hmm not sure whether spell corrrectly) is so cute! Above is a photo of him when we asked him to smile haha.. Thanks Wei Lyn for inviting us to her house!
